#MANJAPAI - MOVIE REVIEW(U)
Production : A Sargunam Cinemaz, Thirrupathi Brothers
Cast : Vinmal, Lakshmi Menon, Rajkiran
Direction : N Raghavan
Music & BGM : NR Raghunanthan
First of all , when we here the word "MANJAPAI" we would have thought it's about a rural area and as traditional drama. Of course , it was but the story moves with an extreme joy and love between a grand-pa(Rajkiran) and a grand-son(Vimal).
Vemal plays as Tamizh, a small town boy raised solely by his grandfather ‘Thatha’ Venkatsamy (Rajkiran), with a singular desire of settling down in the U.S. Where as Karthika (Lakshmi Menon) somewhat distracts the dutiful professional early on in the film, who was found by Vimal as lover in an as-usual sequence, at TrafficSignal.
The film plays out not unlike a triangular romance with Grandpa’s(Rajkiran) overbearing love for his grandson, and virtually everyone else around, that eats into Karthika’s affection towards Tamizh. Quite expectedly Tamizh, who is must decide while still trying to pursue his foreign dreams. There are times, as an audience, you wish he was just left alone to carry on with his own life.
The first half is sequenced with the intention to build on the love between Tamizh(Vimal) and Karthika(Lakshmi Menon). This is attempted with sufficient doses of comedy injected into the scenes, which are fairly generic.
The director’s plan to use octogenarians in comedy scenes and in songs as dancers appears as a sign of what’s in store for the rest of the film.
As far as performances go, Rajkiran looks the part and plays it according to the director's vision. He's extremely caring and also equally unintelligible. If you can relate to his mischief then you would find yourself more invested in what the director aims to message.
The slowly building climax brings out emotionally strong performances from Rajkiran and Vemal. May will feel a bit of tears in the climax sequence.
In this movie , chemistry between hero and heroine was bit less while compared to hero and his grand-pa. Since the story is all about these two guyz. Also , this is a better way to show the love between a grandpa and his grandson.
Even though the story and act was good ,when we see it as an cinema. We are supposed to have an entertainment and that's was not able to full-fill by this attempt. As a story it's a great movie but as an common audience we will not be able to look after all aspects in this movie.
1st Half : Comedy,joy,love
2nd half : Sentiment,Aggressive
Plus : Rajkiran-Vimal chemistry, Rajkiran's performance, story

Minus : Songs,music,screenplay(drags a lot)
Overall, it's a normal family entertaining flick, which we could watch for Rajkiran and Vimal's performance. But sure you won't get disappointed but might feel little brag in between. Could made much more better, expected a bit extra .
Verdict : Manjapai is a collection of innocence/joy and sentiment (between grand pa and grand son)
RATING : 2.5/5
